Gulf Engineering Union Gulf Engineering Forums The 5th Gulf Engineering Meeting Muscat - Oman 18th - 20th February 2001 The Oman capital, Muscat, hosted the 5th Gulf Engineering meeting during the period of 18th - 20th of February 2001 were various participants from engineering societies and Gulf countries participated. The Opening Ceremony The Gulf Engineering meeting was opened by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin-Ali Al Kutbi, President of the Omani Consultative Council. He mentioned in one of the newspaper reports after the opening ceremony: "It’s a good opportunity to meet excelled engineers in seasonal occasions that aims of getting higher position and brings us more knowledge of their past experiences". He added that there was no hesitation for the Muscat Municipality to hosts the activities for it will give great opportunity to utilize the engineering practices, and he wishes that all engineers who will benefit in this meeting will benefit greatly. It is also noticed that the exhibition presents many products that would be useful in the part of engineering technology which will established gulf perfection. On the other hand, Engineer Abdulla Bin Abbas Bin Ahmed, Muscat's mayor, confirmed in what he said in the opening ceremony, that this meeting which rehabilitated in the city of Muscat during the 5th season will be the continuation and completion of the previous meetings for it has also an assurance of achieving its goals by exchanging experiences and discussions that interests the engineering profession. His Grace said: It’s one of his greatest joys that this forum is under the title “the Gulf engineers and the future plan” which participated by enormous specialists who are interested and concerned. The representatives of the engineering corporations, universities and institutions in the Gulf helped in the scientific paper works that stressed on cases that deals in the Engineering Affairs. It becomes significant to place it on the analyzing table to concede the successful analysis in the training and development of the practitioners of the engineering profession. The challenges of the gulf engineers focused on the importance of vocational rehabilitation and organizing the role of education in building the vocational personality in modern manners. The points discussed: 1. Organizing and classifying the Gulf Engineering profession. 2. Programs of training and its goals and schemes of the cadre preparation. 3. The exchange of information's by way of electronic exchange. The Gulf Engineering meeting and seminar continued for two whole days and it received paper works, studies and researches including all the discussions in the seminar. There was also a special engineering exhibition where panels were displayed representing its accomplishments in the field of the profession and services in the engineering world. ×
