Dear Reader,
December 2 is a day on which we recall the insightful and impressive life of the late founding father, Shaikh Zayed Bin
Sultan Al Nahyan, and also the wise leadership of their Highnesses Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan
and His Brother Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for their devotion to establish a strong, viably
structured Federal State.
It is with much joy and anticipation that we celebrate the issuance of no. 71 "World of Engineering" magazine in this
time of the year, in which UAE is celebrating its 42nd National Day as well as the moment we have been looking
forward to with full excitement and compassion, winning the bid to host Expo 2020. Dubai's win is a result of the great
achievements and success attained by the nation and the people. As the country's Expo bid theme: Connecting Minds,
Creating the Future, so is the Society of Engineers-UAE promises to connect minds in creating a legacy not only to the
nations, but also to the entire world for its sustainability and environment safety.
On behalf of the World of Engineering Editorial Team, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the readership of
the magazine. I take this opportunity to thank our authors, editors and reviewers, all of whom have volunteered to
contribute to the success of the magazine.
World of Engineering magazine is dedicated to the rapid dissemination of up to date information on the achievements
of engineering fields in UAE and of course all over the world. We welcome contributions that can enrich the knowledge
of readers and share expertise knowledge and practices, and other contributions that take a multi-disciplinary/
convergent approach because many real world problems are complex in nature.
Barely a decade and half into the new millennium, and looking forward to the coming of the New Year, we are witnesses
to significant events in this year; such as the Lighting Conference in the Middle East, the first Arabian Tunnelling
Conference, the list of possibilities goes on. This all wouldn't have happened hadn't it been the wise guidance of our
rulers, and the invaluable contribution of all SOE members and readers.
World of Engineering magazine provides an ideal forum for exchange of information on engineering sectors, business
administrations, management, leadership and other topics. World of Engineering magazine is published four times a
year.
Finally, we wish to encourage more contributions from the engineering community and practitioners to ensure a
continued success of the magazine. We also welcome comments and suggestions that could improve the quality of the
magazine. We appreciate your support and are so happy to have you as a reader of World of Engineering magazine.
