The United Arab Emirates has won the bid to host the World Tunnelling Congress in 2018, receiving the highest votes in the process that took place during the general assembly of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association on Wednesday evening in Croatia.
The event was attended by representatives of 70 countries, members of the Union.
Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, President of the UAE Society of Engineers said that the UAE's winning to host this international event "is an affirmation of the leadership's pioneering global role."
He dedicated the win to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Al Maidoor also dedicated the victory to the government, the people of the UAE and the entire engineering sector as well as the entire Arab world.
He reiterated that winning the bid to host the event confirms the world's confidence in the UAE to introduce many new hi-tech projects and the support of the UAE government for innovative projects.
